Hidden Creek – The Journey Into Natural Farming
Natural farming, also known as “do nothing” farming, is an environmentally sustainable way of growing food based on the principle that an equitable relationship between farmer and nature should form the foundation of the farmers actions.
Here at Hidden Creek Homestead in Pleasant Hill Missouri, we are starting our own journey into natural farming. As of now, we have 14 Scottish Highland cows, 6 Kunekune pigs, 40 chickens, 11 ducks and a colony of bees.
Years ago, I didn’t care where my food came from or how it got to me. It wasn’t until I saw the positive effects of living more naturally that I started to realize the importance it plays into our mental and physical health. When I became a foster parent, I was able to see the impact farming has on children’s mental health first hand.
Since then, I’ve created this farm little by little, and it has evolved as I’ve learned. Hidden Creek Homestead is a dream in the making, and we have big plans.
We want to work with the permaculture philosophy, creating natural cycles of plants and animals that all coexist together the way nature intended.
The long term goal is to be able to produce as many natural products as possible to offer to my community.
